What Is Soy Roof Rejuvenation?
Roof rejuvenation is a treatment sprayed onto an aging asphalt shingle roof to put back the oils the shingles lose over time. Years of sun and weather bake those oils out. The shingles turn dry and brittle, their color fades, and they start losing the granules that protect them from UV rays.
A soy roof treatment soaks into the asphalt and restores those lost oils, so your shingles become more flexible and hold onto their granules longer. It is not a surface coating. Instead of sitting on top, the soy-based oil absorbs into the shingles themselves.

Signs Your Asphalt Shingle Roof Needs Rejuvenation
Rejuvenation works best on a roof that is aging but still in good structural shape. It may be time to call us if you notice:
- Faded, chalky, or washed-out shingles that have lost their original color.
- Granules collecting in your gutters or piling up at the bottom of downspouts.
- Dry, brittle shingles with edges that look stiff or crack easily.
- A roof that is roughly 8 to 20 years old that you would like to keep for more years before replacing.
Not sure if your roof qualifies? During your free estimate we look at the age and condition of your roof and tell you honestly whether rejuvenation makes sense.
How Soy Roof Treatment Restores Aging Shingles
Asphalt shingles mainly fail in two ways: they dry out and get brittle, and they lose their granules. A soy oil roof treatment addresses both.
- Restores lost oils. The soy-based treatment soaks into the asphalt and replaces oils that UV exposure has dried out.
- Improves flexibility. Flexible shingles handle Pennsylvania’s hot summers and freezing winters better than brittle ones.
- Helps shingles hold their granules. Granules shield the asphalt from the sun, and keeping them in place helps the roof last.
- Helps shingles shed water. Restored shingles repel water better instead of soaking it in.
- Brings back curb appeal. As the oils return, so does a deeper, more even shingle color.
Independent PRI Lab Testing of Soy Roof Treatments
In 2022, independent lab testing by PRI Asphalt Technologies looked at soy roof treatments at the same 20% soy concentration SoyFuze uses. After accelerated weathering, treated shingles:
- Lost far less mass than untreated shingles: 0.5% vs 5.4% (mass loss includes asphalt, binder, and granules).
- Shed less material in wash-off testing: 0.7 grams vs 4.08 grams.
- Showed less UV oxidation: a 7.8% vs 30.7% increase in the carbonyl index.
- Kept better low-temperature flexibility.

Roof Rejuvenation vs. Roof Replacement
If your roof is aging but still sound, replacement may not be your only option. Rejuvenation can be the smarter first step:
- A fraction of the cost of replacement. You treat the shingles you already have instead of tearing them off.
- About 5 more years per treatment. A roof can be treated up to three times over its life.
- Less disruption. No tear-off, no dumpster in your driveway, no days of hammering.
- Less landfill waste. Keeping your roof in service longer keeps old shingles out of the landfill, and the treatment is made from renewable soybean oil.
What Roof Rejuvenation Does Not Do
Rejuvenation restores asphalt shingles. It does not fix leaks, replace missing shingles, or repair damaged flashing, pipe boots, or sealants. Any needed repairs come first. If your roof is past the point where treatment makes sense, we will tell you.
How Much Does Roof Rejuvenation Cost in Lebanon & Lancaster, PA?
Soy roof rejuvenation costs a fraction of the cost of a roof replacement. Your price depends on your roof’s size, pitch, and condition, and whether any repairs or cleaning are needed first, so we quote every roof after a free estimate.
Our Roof Rejuvenation Process
- Free estimate and roof check. We look at your roof’s age, condition, and shingle type, and note any repairs needed before treatment.
- Repairs and cleaning, only if needed. Leaks, missing shingles, or damaged flashing must be repaired first. The roof must be clean and dry. A soft wash isn’t always needed; when we recommend soft wash roof cleaning, it is priced separately.
- Protect roof details. We cover or spray around pipe boots, caulk, roof cement, and skylights.
- Apply the soy treatment. We spray one even coat across your clean, dry shingles. It goes on milky white and soaks in.
- Walk-through and next steps. We review the job with you, explain what to expect as the treatment absorbs, and let you know when your roof may be ready for its next treatment.

Roof Rejuvenation Results That Last
Soy roof rejuvenation is meant to keep working for years, not weeks. This brick ranch was treated in 2022 and photographed again in 2025. Three years later, the shingles still show a dark, even color.

Roof Rejuvenation FAQs
How long does roof rejuvenation last?
Each soy roof rejuvenation treatment lasts about 5 years. A roof can receive up to three treatments over its life, so starting while your shingles are still sound gives you the most added years.
How much does roof rejuvenation cost?
Roof rejuvenation costs a fraction of the cost of replacing your roof. Every roof is different in size, pitch, and condition, so we give you an exact price after a free, no-pressure estimate.
What types of roofs can you treat?
We treat asphalt shingle roofs only, including architectural shingles. We do not treat metal or tile roofs. Results are best on structurally sound asphalt roofs that are roughly 8 to 20 years old.
Will roof rejuvenation fix a leak?
No. Roof rejuvenation restores aging asphalt shingles. It does not fix leaks, missing shingles, or damaged flashing, pipe boots, or sealants. Those repairs need to be made before your roof is treated.
Is there a warranty on roof rejuvenation?
Yes. Power Play gives a 5-year warranty covering the restoration properties of the treatment. The warranty does not cover leaks or structural defects.
Does my roof need to be cleaned before treatment?
Your roof must be clean and dry before the soy treatment is applied. A soft wash isn’t always needed. When we recommend one, for example because of heavy algae, black streaks, or moss, the soft wash is priced separately. Learn more about our no-pressure soft wash roof cleaning.
Is roof rejuvenation the same as roof cleaning?
No. Roof cleaning removes algae, black streaks, and moss from the surface of your shingles. Roof rejuvenation puts oils back into the shingles so they stay flexible and hold onto their granules. Some roofs need one, some need both. See our roof cleaning service for algae and streak removal.
Has soy roof treatment been tested?
Yes. Independent lab testing by PRI Asphalt Technologies of soy roof treatments at the same 20% soy concentration SoyFuze uses showed that treated shingles lost far less mass than untreated shingles (0.5% vs 5.4%), shed less material in wash-off testing, and showed less UV oxidation.
What areas do you serve?
We are based in Lebanon County, PA, and serve homeowners throughout Lebanon, Lancaster, Dauphin, and Berks counties, including Lebanon, Lancaster, Hershey, Palmyra, Lititz, Ephrata, Elizabethtown, and Myerstown.
